Summary/Abstract: The regionalization of tourism and strategy of tourism count among the most important documents which have impact on development of tourism in Slovakia in the present time. The current regionalization of tourism was preceded by regionalization of tourism, arranged for the whole Czechoslovakia in the years 1960–1961 and by the actualization of regionalization of Slovakian tourism from the year 1981. The present regionalization of tourism reflects the changes that had taken place after 1989 and the subsequent establishment of independent Slovakian Republic. On basis of the regionalization, 21 regions of tourism have been designated which are divided into 4 categories (international, national, supra-regional and regional importance) on the basis of their importance. In each of these regions, the main activities have been settled, to which the given region has convenient potentional. In 2013, the Strategy of tourism development until 2020 had been prepared in Slovakia, sanctioned by the Government of SR by means of its resolution no. 379/2013 and which came into effect.
