REDEFINING ROLE OF PARENTS IN THE LIGHT OF CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES (AND ISLAMIC TRADITION)

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with redefinition of the role of parents, contemporary challenges and the Islamic tradition, however, the main focus is upon the parenthood in Islam in relation to the contemporary times. It stresses the phenomenon of parenthood in Islam, its concept, characteristics and function, as well as distinctive features of parenthood in sharia-legal sense and the significance of parents’ role. It was necessary to discuss some of the social changes that have had an impact upon family and parenthood, as well as challenges facing the Islamic concept of parenthood today. Trends and changes that are taking place in this process are not a problem in themselves; those are rather simple laws of any process that is taking place in social context. However, this does not mean that every change is good and positive.
