Summary/Abstract: Alevis represent a large religious community in Turkey. According to different estimates, they constitute from 10% up to 20% of the population and profess Alevism – one of the heterodox sects of Islam. Philosophy, worship and ritual in Alevism vary greatly from the traditions of the Hanafi school of Sunni Islam, which is the dominating religion in Turkey. The article studies the religious tradition of Alevism.
