Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the phenomenon of online giveaway communities. These are the Internet communities by means of which participants can share or exchange consumer goods (books, baby stuff, clothes, jewelry, dishes among other things) free of charge. The authors carry out a descriptive analysis (netnography) of several online giveaway communities in Russia investigating the practices and reasons for exchange as well as structure and consequences of this phenomenon in Russia.
