Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the attitude of Ferdinand Lassalle, a prominent social and political figure of the mid-19th century Germany, to the problem of national states’ development in Europe. The differences in the analysis and approaches of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Lassalle to the evaluation of the Italian war of 1859 are studied. F. Lassalle’s attitude toward Polish uprising of 1863 and the Schleswig-Holstein issue is characterized. F. Lassalle advocated for the realization of “real policy”. He was confident that the unification of Italy and Germany can occur as a result of proper policies pursued by the governments of Piedmont and Prussia.
