Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of the author’s individual transformation of phraseological units, which is regarded as an occasionalphraseological derivation. Occasional phraseological units are determined by the communicative and pragmatic goals pursuedby the author of the text. A conducted linguistic analysis suggests that a derivative unit retains derivational connections with themotivational phraseological unit. Transformative possibilities of phraseological units depend on the structure, semantics, figurativemeaning of produced phraseologies, and their ability/inability to grammatical changes. According to the results of the research, unique phraseological occasionalisms are assistive in the creation of the effect of novelty and freshness of the problem perception. It also emphasizes emotiveness and expression. The most striking phraseological occasionalisms, due to their popularity, are used inthe language of other authors, and, as a result, gradually become part of the lexical-phraseological system of the Russian language.
