Summary/Abstract: There are two conflicting views of the informants who witnessed the events in the village of Boyadzhik in 1876. The current research attempts to perform a critical analysis of surviving documents, memoirs and publications and thus to shed light on the issue, trying to demonstrate that the village of Boyadzhik was the only village to rise in Second (Sliven) Revolutionary District. The author traces the initiation and development of revolutionary activity in the village, its most prominent instigators and leaders, the contacts of the local secret organisation with Vassil Levski and other revolutionary committees. The events preceding the uprising, the armed hostilities and the bloody defeat of the uprising are also revealed. As an appendix to the article of the author, in order to facilitate future research and to clarify certain points, the editors of Historical Review have decided to reprint in their original from several texts concerning the village of Boyadzhik, that have been extracted from reports and articles from the press of Vienna in 1876.
