Summary/Abstract: The article reasons the significance of classification of crimes for differentiation of criminal responsibility and punishment. It reveals contradictions in the approaches of law makers, on the one hand, and a number of criminal law institutions, on the other hand, to the regulation of categories of crimes, as well as offers appropriate ways for their elimination.
