Summary/Abstract: The Control Commission of the Romanian Communist Party was initially an investigation body (regular or special, individual or collective) for cases of deviation from the ”political line”, from the party morals and discipline, in the case of plain party members and for the same types of deviations (regardless their nature) in the case of nomenklatura members. Later, it became an appeal body for appealing exclusion decisions and penalties decided by the party organizations. Unlike the Security, which was the political police of the regime, the Commission represented its ideological police. This body, which was closely related to the hard core of the totalitarian power (the Secretariat, the supreme leader), played a first range role in transforming the society according to the ideological ”New Man´s” canon or, in other words, of turning individuals into docile persons, without personality, moral values, tradition, culture and faith, controlled by fear, terror, and propaganda – methods covered by the sui generis name of ”communist morals” according to the ”wooden language” terminology.Analyzing the motivations of the involved actors, together with the history of this institution, the author´s conclusion is that, beyond being simple vehicles of ideology and propaganda, this is about the satisfaction of the most obscure interests, of gregarious drives, of the desire for power, briefly, about pure power.
