Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes Lomonosov’s theory of the three styles. It also considers the basic developmental stages and the correlation of Russisms and Slavisms in the Old Russian period. The study involves extensive factual material collected from a variety of historical sources. The research matches Russisms with archaisms and proves that the opposition between the concrete-common and the abstract-high vocabulary is not genetically determined. The paper traces the history of the three-part system of the stylistic fund of the Russian literary language.
