Summary/Abstract: In the literature on the issues of ageing and old age the last stage of human life is usually associated with wisdom. You can also easily observe the results of studies that argue that wisdom increases with age. At the same time many authors emphasize that the person's age, albeit an important condition for the manifestation of wisdom, is not a sufficient condition. In view of this it raises the question of how to understand wisdom and contribute to its formation and growth, since the time factor alone does not guarantee its manifestation. Seeking answers to this question, it should be noted that the psychological study of wisdom is still a new area of scientific exploration. Despite this, we are now faced with a multiplicity of definitions and concepts of this construct. The article is an attempt to: (1) define the characteristics of wisdom as a variable which is the result of changes resulting from the process of gerotranscendence; (2) identify approximations of both biblical and psychological interpretations of wisdom; (3) show the importance of wisdom in the psychosocial functioning of seniors
