Summary/Abstract: Contours of the European Union’s social dimensions have been outlined within different national social contexts. The basics of nordic, anglo-Saxon, Mediterranean, Continental and Eastern European regimes have different presumptions, but objectives seem rather compatible. Poverty and social exclusion reduction is one of the social objectives of the European welfare states with a strong base on the Union level through the Social open Method of Coordination (oMC). assessments of the oMC impact over national social inclusion policies point to numerous improvements but also to shortages that need to be overcome.
