Community Based Services As A Support For Parents Providing Long Term Care For Children And Young People With Disabilities

Summary/Abstract: Disability phenomenon is affecting not only children and young people with disabilities, but their families, particularly parents. Primary difficulties caused by this situation are: adjustment to the child disability, inability for regular work hours, chronic fatigue and fear for the child future. For overcoming these problems, development of community based services for people with disabilities is becoming increasingly important. This paper analyses some of the existing support services, and tries to identifies whether tailored made community solutions presents optimal response for overcoming challenges faced by parents providing long-term care for children and young people with disabilities.
