Summary/Abstract: The Lippovan Russians from Dobruja are the descendants of the Slavs who settled here in the second half of the 17th century, in localities which are currently part of the Tulcea and Constanţa counties, as well as in the Danube Delta. They have earned their own distinct place in the ethnic mosaic characteristic of Dobruja thanks to their language and their immaterial assets, including folklore and traditions, community habits and practices, their lifestyle and main occupations. The Lippovan actual songs have stood the test of the influences and the changes which occurred in other folklore genres throughout time, due to the specific and unitary characteristics of the texts and the music. These creations have proven to have particular qualities; their analysis follows both the content and the form of the melodic discourse, and the convergence of the musical and poetical organisation in the structure of the actual songs of the Dobruja Lippovan Russians.
