Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to assess the position of Lower Silesian Voivodeship compared to other regions of western Poland and identify potential opportunities to improve its competitiveness through the participation in this initiative. Apart from Lower Silesia, the concept of western Polish macro-region involved Lubuskie, Opolskie, Wielkopolskie and Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeships. This initiative is so called bottom-up, emerging from regional self-governed authorities. It is to contribute to the ease of obtaining external assistance for the implementation of joint projects and to strengthen cooperation and consequently to enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of the macro-region in terms of international dimension.
