European predecessors of Media Research

Summary/Abstract: Most of the scientific literature in this area located the beginnings of media research in the United States. However, some critical American authors admit that the roots of this research have his origin in Europe. Foundations of scientific thinking about newspapers, was preparing by philosophers, educationalists, practitioners, shortly after the establishing of the first newspapers in the 17th and 18th centuries. The biggest claim to fame, however, is the founders of the social sciences, sociology and psychology, who have considering the role of the press in society and especially in creating public opinion on the basis of scientific knowledge.
