Summary/Abstract: The NBU Linguist’s Workbench is conceived as an important part of a FLT platform designed to support tasks relating to the teaching of foreign languages, general or in specialised fields. Its modules allow for the creation and maintenance of monolingual, bilingual and multilingual corpora, for text segmentation and analysis, for keyword in context analysis. The tool is an updated version of the first Bulgarian software environment for processing electronic texts, whose basic modules were created in 1992 as part of a project funded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science [Stambolieva, 1992]. The design of the environment and its major functions are inspired and, largely, modelled after basic text analysis operations in traditional corpus linguistics and mainstream corpus analysis procedures [Sinclair, 1991]. The system is open and allows for the addition of modules to support new applications.
