Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the Soviet children’s cinematography of the 1920s, the first steps of its establishment as a “target” genre in Soviet film production, and the peculiarities of the first Soviet children’s films and their perception by children. The research is based on special cinematology journals as well as on educational periodicals of the period under examination. The analysis of children’s answers to questionnaires organized at that time made it possible to determine a Soviet child’s attitude to the cinema, the influence of cinematography on children’s audience, and its role as a specific instrument of new Soviet upbringing practices.
