Summary/Abstract: The article approaches the competing corporatist discourses in pre-communist Romania from the standpoint of their relation with the process of the development of professional associations and professional chambers, itself closely connected with the elaboration of labor legislation and social policies. There emerges from this a focus on a flirtation with the corporatist design exposed by a (broadly defined) Left-liberal trend of thought, shown to grow more reluctant towards a genuine engagement with the issue precisely as it gets channeled on a path of evolution marked by a (largely complacent) accommodation with the reigning right-wing discourse of the late 1930’s.
