Summary/Abstract: The “Praca Szkolna” (School Work) monthly was the official magazine of the Faculty of Education of ZNP (Union of Polish Teachers) and was devoted to the practice of education in the primary school. The first issue appeared in 1922. The article includes texts related to the book, its functions and bibliological processes in the context of school education. The analysis includes 64 articles by distinguished teachers, both Polish and foreign, on such issues as: keeping a school and classroom library, organizing a teachers’ library, readership among the pupils (in general and research in particular schools), the importance of books in the education of the youth, reading functions, the book as part of the curriculum. Noteworthy are the teaching methods, in which the learners create books by themselves or run a library under the supervision of a teacher or a librarian; calls for increased use of supplementary reading in the teaching process are also worth mentioning. The methods were supposed to lead to a situation in which young people would use books not only in the learning process, but also in self-education.
