Summary/Abstract: As the traditional discourse of belonging is tightly related tobeing grounded in a recognizable and legitimate place, territory or identity,in this paper I will be arguing for the abandonment, for the effortof leaving one’s place (being a city, house, oneself, one’s thoughts). Iwill discuss both the strategies of identification (naming, appropriationand propriety) and the politics of motion (leaving, departing, arriving),as well as their political and epistemic implications, in order to showhow being-out-of-place could represent the political motion of continuousde-identification and re-identification, being successively familiarand a stranger to one-self, contingent and dynamic, thus escaping therecognized capturing categories and discourses and opening up to theunthinkable imaginaries and new political horizons.
