Summary/Abstract: Evidences for lateralization were found in every biological species- from fishes and reptiles to superior primates, including human. Recent studies indicate that lateralization definitely exists in the animal kingdom and certainly is not a human trait. The evolutionary advantage of lateralization is due to the ability to perform specific tasks in parallel in each hemisphere of the brain. The mechanism of lateralization is still not completely understood, but some explanations are presented. Some brain areas show a strong asymmetry, distinguished human from other species and give it evolutionally advantage.
