Summary/Abstract: Diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic diseases in childhood associated with the inability of the endocrine pancreas to produce enough insulin. Diabetes can develop at any period of childhood, but is more common in school-age. Diabetes mellitus occurs in childhood with large fluctuations, especially during puberty. Lability of the disease is due to a number of endogenous and exogenous multiple factors: infections, stress, diet violations, and errors in insulin therapy. Prevention of diabetes in childhood is the most important factor in reducing the incidence of this disease and it is an integral part of fighting the illness. The role of the nurse in the prevention of diabetes in childhood is mainly aimed at education on healthy nutrition, reduce obesity, and change in behavior and eating habits.
