Summary/Abstract: "These writings are a shortcut through an investigation of the position of poetry in the human world. They do not, then, represent all the important things of my experience: the path that has threaded equally through the writing of poems, through reading and through everyday life is presented here only in its basic direction. With a point of departure from each place at which the world has touched my life, these notes owe their origin to many persons, many events, many things. Profoundly grateful for everything they have done for me, I am the only reason for the poverty of appearance of their plenitude. Nothing here is refuted, nothing proved: this is like a story of a single life, like a guide through a single spiritual biography, a guide that is itself just one of its moments. That is why I have not corrected those places for which I later found a clearer and more definite language. Everything has been left within its moment. The unity of the book inheres in the question, and the diversity in the answers that I have found during ten years – from 1955 to 1965." (Vlado Gotovac)
