Summary/Abstract: Findings from research conducted in group of 373 students from three schools on characteristics of early adolescent identity emerged from cluster analysis. Three types emerged: diffused (32%), moratorium (27%) and achievement identities (41%). Analysis of variance (MANCOVA) showed that there was no significant difference between socio-demographic indicators (gender, socio-economic family status), level of social maladjustment and experience of shame for individuals according to identity status. Socialmaladjustment only differentiated at the level of family or colleagues – at a significant but moderate level in a group with diffused, moratorium and achievement identities.
