Summary/Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of the traditional approaches to understanding the foundations of truth (either in the consciousness or outer world) based on the philosophy of R. Descartes and G. Ryle. The categories of reality and actuality are introduced. It is concluded that they coexist in a human being. A hypothesis of free will as an unconscious desire of humans to overcome the overpowering nature of outer actuality in order to gain a foothold in the conscious reality is suggested.
