Summary/Abstract: In about four years, Grzegorz Stachańczyk has been working on a project entitled “The Asylum of uncertain life”. He has painted seven pictures, which can be considered as “heroic and pathetic” illustrations to Biblical stories (“Judith”, “Hagar”, “Tamar”), and as stories on betrayal and revenge (“Putifar’s Wife”, “Delilah”, “Gomer”, “Salome”). He used different materials, such as acrylic paint on paper, and oil paint on canvas. The pictures are colourful and filled with tension. Their intimate atmosphere is lightened with warm candle flame, but the light isn’t bright. It doesn’t reveal every thing. Many details are hidden in shadows. The artist concentrates on the human figures, their relationships, the ways they connect with each other. He paints “as if painting were the most important thing in life”. I believe that this is the best way to paint.
