Summary/Abstract: With the occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely Tuzla area 1878., one of the problems new Austrian-Hungary government encountered was the question of where to house new government organs, as well as army, gendarmes (police), etc. To overcome that state of affairs, and also because the permanent solution could not be found, first step was to adapt buildings that where available. Thus, for the needs of accommodating the County government Konak (Hostel) in Tuzla was adapted. Since Austro-Hungarian government showed great deal of attention to the issue of public safety, that is to the gendarmes, in 1894. they begun solving the issue regarding gendarmes and their accommodation. For their needs building of Pasha's konak (hostel) was adapted, and some additional infrastructure needed for a gendarme (police) station where built. Otherwise, in Austro-Hungarian period Tuzla was enjoying economic prosperity and development that included large amount of new structures being built.
