Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to introduce one of the first linguistic databases set up in Lithuania and to discuss a need and possibilities to update it. The database contains data of Lithuanian word building and morphemes; it was set up during the last decade of the 20th century together with the electronic version of the third edition of the Dictionary of Contemporary Lithuanian (Dabartinės lietuvių kalbos žodynas). The database consists of ca. 75 thousand of entry words of the above dictionary, which have been analysed from the point of view of word building and morphemic structure. The database also contains other valuable information, which is now practically is inaccessible due to the out-dated software. The paper also introduces a small-scale research based on the above database. The research focuses on the analysis of the morphemic structure of contemporary Lithuanian verbs and discusses the preliminary statistical data. The research aims at demonstrating, among other things, several main possibilities offered by the database of word-building and morphemics. The results of the analysis point at the need to update and further develop the above database with the aim to adjust it to a wide range of modern research.
