Summary/Abstract: The paper considers two traditions on the early history of Parthia known from the antique literature. A recent attempt to put this idea into question is discussed. Attention is paid to the fact that differences in the nature and integrity of the works of Zosimus, Syncellus, and Photius, as well as several versions of the origin of the Parthian state reflected in the works of Arrian and Strabo, should be taken into account when addressing this issue. Based on the above considerations, two conclusions are derived. Firstly, there are no compelling reasons to deny that the works of Zosimus, Syncellus, and Photius are based on Flavius Arrian’s Parthica. Secondly, since the significant amount of information about the origin of the Parthian state provided by Pompeius Trogus and Strabo was borrowed from Apollodorus of Artemita’s Parthica, we need to restore the historical justice and distinguish the tradition of Apollodorus along with the Arrian’s one.
