Summary/Abstract: The paper is devoted to the study of the international position of the Roman Republic at the beginning of the 5th century BC, from the time of change of the state system to the moment of signing the Treaty of Alliance with the Latin Federation in 493 BC. The analysis of the relations between the Roman Republic and the Latin Federation at the end of the 6th century BC reveals the transformation of the religious union into the political one. Attention is drawn to the fact that this transformation could occur under the external influence. Changes that took place in the relations between the Romans and Latins after the conclusion of the foedus Cassianum are discussed.
