Summary/Abstract: The study of a foreign language leads to its comparison with the learner's mother tongue. In our case the comparison is between Russian and its similarity to Czech. This type of analysis presents a general aim for the assessment of the homogeneity and idiosyncrasies of Russian in comparison with Czech. Russian and Czech are genetically related languages, therefore in the Czech environment Russian is considered easy. However, due to the languages' close affinity many problems arise, thus making a perfect acqusition of Russian difficult for Czechs: this is foremnost due to the influence of language interference. Consequently, the importance of the study of language interference is empasised in linguistics for the purpose of a detailed definition of the language. As regards the metodology of teaching a foreign language, the study of language interference is of utmost importance so that it is possible to anticipate the difficulties that the students will encounter when they express themselves by means of a language system which is different to that of their mother tongue.
