Summary/Abstract: Grammatical syncretism is understood as asymmetry of language sign, i.e. discrepancy between the content and form of language phenomena. This approach is applied in the study of selected grammatical phenomena in Russian in comparison with Czech, e.g. of Russian imperative with non-imperative meaning, interrogative sentences used as request etc. Special attention is paid to grammatical phenomena which are syncretic only in Russian and whose equivalents in Czech vary. The latter fact must be taken into consideration in case of their translation from Russian into Czech. Further detailed study of the issue of grammatical syncretism in Russian and Czech may benefit both linguistics theory and translation practice.
