Summary/Abstract: In this article the issues of Crimean Tatars collaboration with the Third Reich during the Second World War are discussed. At the end of the war, the Crimean Tatars were accused by the Stalinist regime of treason and on May 18, 1944 the whole nation – without any explanation – was deported to Central Asia in wagons for animals. Transport conditions were extremely hard, a lot of people died during this trip, because of the lack of food and water and of high temperatures. The deportation had very tragic consequences: within six months, in new places of settlement nearly 40% of Crimean Tatars died.
