Summary/Abstract: Educational law is comprised of all rules in an education system which must be followed by the government, state and private institutions and organizations, families, and individuals. In Turkey, one of the most important sources of educational law is the Basic Law of National Education. In this law, the aims of education are stated as raising citizens, and raising individuals who have good traits and professions. Additionally, Turkish National Education is based on the basic principles. Ahi community having a function like today’s chambers of artisans was a socio-economic organizational structure that involves good behaviors, integrity, honesty, helpfulness, and friendship. In the study, the aims and principles of current educational law are compared with basic principles and practices of Ahi community. At the end of the study, some similarities were determined between aims and principles of educational law and principles and practices of Ahi community in many aspects such as equality, education for all throughout life, education everywhere, and raising good individuals and good citizens having good professions. The study was ended with conclusion and recommendations.
