Summary/Abstract: The Ministry of Health, in cooperation with Red Crossand with WHO/Europe technical support, was present in the field since the beginning ofthe migrants’ crisis in June 2015 and made huge efforts to provide the bestpossible health care and assistance. Considering the limitations in humanresources capacities in the health sector at a national level, the increasedneed for medication and medical supplies, as well as the increasing numberof migrants transiting the country, it can be concluded that the health responsehas gradually been improving towards adequate management of thesituation and provision of suitable health care. The role of the Red Crossteams in the provision of medical assistance was crucial and the cooperationbetween the Ministry of Health and the Red Cross is a positive exampleof partnership between the national level and the civil society sector. The health problems of refugees and migrants are similar to those of therest of the population. The most frequent health problems that the newlyarrived migrants face, include accidental injuries, burns, cardiovascularevents, pregnancy and delivery related complications, diabetes, and hypertension.Female migrants frequently face specific challenges, particularlywith regard to maternal, newborn and child health, sexual and reproductivehealth, and violence.
