Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the problem of the legality and legitimacy of humanitarian intervention in the light of contemporary international law and practice. The Author discusses this issue in the context of a potential conflict between State’s sovereignty and its obligations under international human rights law. He points to the new concepts aimed at the legitimization, form the point of view of international law, of the use of force in defence of humanitarian values.
