Standard of living in Poland and the European Union in times of the economic crisis

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the research was to know the changes in the standards of living of people in Poland and the European Union in the years 2008-2011 and determining the position of Poland among the European Union countries. One of the aims of integration of Poland and the European Union was to improve the standards of living. The economic crisis present in the world contributed to a number of changes in socio-economic life of Europe including the changes connected with the level of meeting needs. The impact of the crisis on the living standards is indirect and postponed in time. It takes the most time to know its impact on the standards of living of total population of the country. Generally, the crisis affects the deterioration of the situation on a job market and /or the income situation of the population which results in the lowering of the level of meeting the chosen consumption needs of households and consequently lowers the standards of living of population.
