Summary/Abstract: Nor Polish neither Ukrainian linguists have dealt with the comparison of biological vocabulary related to the study of mushrooms – mycology yet. The present article is an attempt at starting such studies and it focuses on the collection of selected names of edible mushrooms functioning in the Ukrainian and Polish languages with their semantic properties being the starting point. What is an essential element of the paper is the table comprising 79 names of edible mushrooms (in Latin, Ukrainian and Polish) as well as a preliminary classification of myconyms. The number of the categories is significantly high and they include the colour features of mushrooms, the place of their existence, their taste, similarity to objects, co-existence with other plants, the properties of their look etc.
