Factors that contribute to the development of body image in adolescence

Summary/Abstract: In adolescence, body image is a relevant factor associated with well-being as teenagers focus more than others on their physical appearance. Adolescents consider body image a major part of their self-esteem and invest considerable resources in managing their appearance. Beliefs and emotions around body image are shaped by both individual and social factors. The aim of the article is to disentangle and to analyze different individual and social contributors to the development of teenagers’ body image.
