Summary/Abstract: The study compared the basic indicators characterizing the quality of life in the countryside and in the city. Some selected targets contained in the RDP 2014-2020, aimed at improving the economic and social situation of the rural population. The implementation of this policy will be of key importance for reducing disparities between the quality of life of urban and rural population. The study was conducted on the basis of the results of the European survey on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) and household budget. It covers the period of the Polish accession to the European Union (years 2006-2014). In the post-accession period changes in the level and structure of income and expenditure of households let infer the improvement of quality of life of the rural population and farming to a greater extent than in the cities. However, significant disparities at the expense of rural areas still remain, which means that the quality of life in rural areas, despite the improvement, is worse than in the city.
