Summary/Abstract: Intellectual curiosity led Tanaskovic’s quill to different scientific fields. His works, contingently speaking, indicate at least two directions of his intellectual interests. One of the directions is focused on current topics related to Muslims who represent „peripheral Islam“, in the case of this paper they are Bosnian Muslims, the question of their name, identity, nation and country. The second part of Tanasković’s works represents his Orientalistic scientific writings in the fields of Arabic language, which is not dealt with here, and Orientalistically tinted works dealing with Islamic issues. This paper deals with the latter works by analyzing his Orientalistic representation of Sufi tradition. These two kinds of work are difficult to bring into compliance, the first one are ideologically conditioned while the other one have scientific standards.
