Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to a critical analysis of the aesthetics and art of Jurgis Maciunas. The author critically analyzes the sources of Japanism in J. Mačiūnas and Fluxus movements in comparison with those of his precursors. This aesthetics and art matured within a context which is essentially different from the conditions which were decisive for the formation of the preceding traditions. The source of Fluxus is a cultural space over-saturated with cultural symbols, artistic values and theoretical constructions which open new possibilities for creative fantasy. The artists of Fluxus have at hand not only the material which comes from "an imaginary museum of art", but also achievements of contemporary computers are at the artist's disposal. Today essentially new "multilevel" synthetic art forms are being created: efforts are being put to renew the stock of means of artistic expression. Experiments are being made on the basis of the newest technologies: investigation of physiological and perceptive qualities of visual perception serves as a basis for revealing the dynamic and acoustic qualities of different materials. As the aesthetic principles of A. Mačiūnas and Fluxus gain more influence, it becomes more evident that it is a qualitatively new phenomenon of postmodern or post-Eurocentristic artistic culture.
