Summary/Abstract: The article deals with personalization of Czech politics. The author defines two basic concepts of the personalization: (1) a situation, i.e. political system is based on personalized institutions, e.g. presidents in presidential systems; (2) a process, i.e. political systems are continuously and substantially influenced by individuals to the expense of collective players, such as political parties. The societal context of process of personalization of the Czech politics is characterized by a deep distrust towards political parties and political establishment based on them which conduces to delegitimization of both. The weaker position of political parties opens space for individuals and their influence in the political system. In the final part of the article the author analyses possible impact of this kind of personalization on the political system. The main threat for the political system is a lack of control of the newly established individual actors. Despite many shortcomings in their functioning, political parties have established control mechanisms over their members, which is not the case of new political movements based on charisma of their leaders.
