Summary/Abstract: In 1750, the Samogitian bishop Antanas Tiškevičius consecrated a wooden church of the Žemaičių Kalvarija Dominican convent, which survived up to 1824. In the scientific literature, no studies on the architecture or interior arrangement of this church have been made so far. The article presents and attempt, based on abbey visitation documents of the first half of the 19th c. and by analogy with other Lithuanian wooden churches, to determine the structure of the building of the former church, peculiarities of its architecture elements, nuances of decoration, the appearance and iconographic program of the altars. The building has been defined as a big, rather abundantly decorated basilica-type construction bearing some traits of Baroque. Particularly impressive was the ensemble of 13 altars, richly decorated with sculptures, ornamental wood-cuttings and mirrors, gilding and silvering. Its plastic and semantic dominant was a two-storey composition of four presbyterial altars. These altars, as well as the pulpit, the font, the organ, some of architectural details in 1822-1824 were transferred into the new brickwork church and remained there up to the fire of 1896, which destroyed nearly the whole interior of the building.
