Summary/Abstract: In the publication there is presented the contract between the Vilnius painter Joseph Jermaszewski and the elder of Plateliai Joseph Slizna. The contract is stored in the Ukrainian Central State Archive (Lvov). The document, dated 1745, is very important for the biography of the painter as the oldest known trace of his activity disclosed until now. Besides, the document is the direct witness of the communications between the painter and the layman mecenate. It is very interesting that Joseph Slizna ordered the paintings of the saints for his personal needs, possibly for the decoration of his residence. The document attracted attention by a very detailed description of the paintings: not only the iconography of the ordered paintings, but also the colouring, the details that were to be highlighted most, also the sample painting of the ordered pictures - painting of St. Joseph in the Vilnius Church of St. John - were indicated.
