Summary/Abstract: The authors present the results of an excavation carried out in 2006 in an archaeological site from the northern part of the Romanian province of Dobrudja, entirely overlapped by the modern settlement. The preventive archaeological research was occasioned by the works on the water supply of the village. After a summary of the archaeological data (a fortress built in the last quarter of the 10th century, after the Byzantine reconquest of the Lower Danube region; habitation structures; cemeteries; archaeological discoveries dating to the 10th-13th centuries), the article presents new evidence found in the street network, dating from the Iron Age (a pit, pottery, an incineration grave), the Roman and Roman-Byzantine Age (inhumation graves and a building structure), the Middle Byzantine Age (segments of the southern, western and northern inner wall, dwellings, pits, graves), the Modern Age (graves). The rescue archaeological campaign has confirmed and enriched the already known data about the archaeological site, by offering a more accurate image about its potential and a better basis for its preservation.
