How to build the modern art museum in Vilnius

Summary/Abstract: The article presents a scheme for major activities and operations that would make possible to found the Modern Art Museum (MAM) in Vilnius.1. Structural and legal activities: a new state-financed organization - a modern art museum (MAM) - has to be founded for presenting open-to-innovations and purposeful activities of the new institution - MAM.2. Management activities. The basic precondition is the formation of the "MAM Project Group" as well as its active work in the realization of the objectives on the way to the MAM. The "MAM Project Group" should include 6 professionals. They should work in 3 sub-divisions/sectors (two professionals in each): those of Development, Marketing, and Programs. A public organization - the Board of Trustees, comprised of prominent Lithuanian and foreign art, culture, politics, business and public figures - should also he formed and function from the start.3. Financing activities: only the searching for various funds and their utilization would make it possible to create at least minimal financial conditions for the MAM to start.With a view to obtaining wider financing possibilities, it is expedient to found the MAM fund. Its founders are the MAM, the Artists' Association, Vilnius Academy of Arts and the American Lithuanians' Foundation. The function of the fund shall be accumulation of means tor the foundation of the MAM and the promotion of its activities.The results of all the activities and operations:the State (Ministry of Culture) at last shows that it can (wants) adopt decisions on the foundation of the MAM;upon the adoption of appropriate legal decisions on the reorganization of the Lithuanian Art Museum, the conditions for the activities of the MAM shall be purposefully created;the model of the MAM functions and activities shall be formed and the MAM concept shall be implemented and tested;gradual steps shall lead to an architectural competition and its results;the motivation and responsibility of the MAM professionals will increasingly grow, they will have a clear objective of their work;art and cultural society at large, politicians will start to more clearly perceive the necessity and importance of the MAM.
