Digitalization of dictionary slips (fiches)

Summary/Abstract: Digitalization of dictionary slips (fiches) is a task undertaken rather rarely, and hence there are no established standards. In consequence, a slip indexer and browser had to be designed from scratch. The scanned slips are presented in DjVu format and an appropriate relational database stores the information about them. The integration of three approaches: incremental search, binary search and the so-called occasional indexing which consists in refinement of the stored information while searching, offers easy and convenient browsing. The program development was supported by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s grant entitled {Text digitalization tools for philological research}. The program is freely available on the principle of an open license (GNU GLP).
