PERSONAL FUNDS IN THE REGIONAL ARCHIVE OF MARIBOR WITH EMPHASIS ON THE MATERIAL OF DR. AUGUSTINE STEGENSKA

Summary/Abstract: Because of the fact that archival materials of private and legal subjects and individuals is in the category of private property, archives are limited in the sense of obtaining these materials. They depend on willingness of an individual to participate and on the consciousness about protection of archival cultural heritage. Partially said and not clearly stated legacy very often makes the work of archives hard. In the Provincial Archive of Maribor besides the difficulties at obtaining that type of materials, there are 320 of private and family holdings preserved. Even though these holdings are only minor part of totality of holdings we preserve, they are historically immeasurable for the actual survey and better understanding of past events. As the most important category of the materials a preserved correspondence is emphasized. Difficulties with which explorers are faced are actually «personal nature» of private holdings. They are usually not familiar with the system of primary order, and the materials are disorganized and chopped up. Illegible handwriting, confussion of records and other things can present additional difficulties.
